The composer talks about his work:

"The title Full Circle points to the irony of having the latest in computer technology play some very primitive rhythms.    The work is scored for brass quintet, preprogrammed percussion sequences and several synthesizers to be played by a single performer.  I was a fan of the Annapolis Brass Quintet long before I had the honor of collaborating with them. So when I happened to meet Sharon Tiebert  at a recording session in the late ’80’s it was a real thrill. We did  more talking than recording that day, and I’m still not sure if Sharon actually suggested the possibility of me composing a piece for ABQ, or  if I had the audacity to just write something and send it to them!   But  in either case the result was Full Circle, a ten minute piece for  brass quintet, synthesizers and prerecorded elements.  With the combination of  five superhuman musicians who could play  anything, the technology available, and brilliant audio engineer  Victor Giordano, the possibilities were infinite and playing it safe  was out of the question."

"As unsure as I am whose idea it was to initiate ”Full Circle," I am absolutely sure that no-one asked me for an encore piece, but I wrote one anyway!  The "ABQ Encore” took full advantage of the “Full Circle" setup, and included scoring for additional prerecorded brass parts, for a total of 17 brass “players,” plus prerecorded percussion and live synthesizer.
I think it worked well, and it’s fun and optimistic sound was a nice way to end our performances.

But thank goodness the audience asked for an encore!"  [Tom Alonso]
