William Schmidt's

William Joseph Schmidt, Jr. was born in 1926 in Chicago, Illinois. He began playing the saxophone at the age of six and was playing professionally by the time he was twelve. After serving as a Navy musician from 1944-46, he attended Chicago Musical College before moving to Los Angeles in 1952.
Much of the music of William Schmidt was influenced by jazz and folk music. His 160 compositions and 470 arrangements are primarily written for brass, woodwind and percussion in a variety of settings. He died on April 25, 2009 in Los Angeles.
