EMIL PETROVICS: CASSAZIONE
Emil Petrovics was born in Yugoslavia (now Serbia) on 9 February 1930. His first international success came when he was awarded the 1959 Liège Prize for his string quartet. He soon became a prominent composer of three operas, a ballet, several oratorios, nine cantatas, and numerous instrumental and orchestral works.
Petrovics also played an important role in the music life of Hungary as professor at the Liszt Academy of Music, musical director of the Petőfi Theatre, and general director at the Hungarian State Opera.
