GEORGES DELERUE: VITRAIL for brass quintet
Born on 12 March 1925 in Roubaix, France, Delerue showed musical talent early and won a scholarship to the prestigious Paris Conservatory, where he was taught by Henri Busser, Simone Plé-Caussade, Jean Rivier and Darius Milhaud.
Delerue wrote about 140 stage scores and over 200 film scores for such directors such as François Truffaut, Philippe de Broca, Louis Malle, Henri Verneuil, Bernardo Bertolucci, John Huston, Mike Nichols, Fred Zinnemann, Oliver Stone, and Bruce Beresford.
He won an Emmy for "Our World" (1967), an Oscar (1979) for best original soundtrack for "A Little Romance," three consecutive César Awards for "Get out Your Handkerchiefs" (1979), "Love on the Run" (1980), "the Last Metro" (1981), and a Gemini Award for "Sword of Gideon" (1987). Critics praised his work on Oliver Stone's "Platoon," a 1986 film about the Vietnam War that won an Oscar as best picture.

His classical music catalogue includes two string quartets, a sonata for piano and violin, six melodies on poems by Paul Eluard, works for guitar, oboe, brass, and nine ballets, two operas, two chamber operas, and numerous orchestral works.
