Composer George Heussenstamm
____
24th of July
HAPPY BIRTHDAY
GEORGE HEUSSENSTAMM
On the happy occasion of American composer
George Heussenstamm's
95th BIRTHDAY
we pay tribute with his
Canonic Fanfare, Op. 74 for brass quintet
This is a very short piece in G Major where the offstage players enter one by one playing the imitative passage over and over until they are fully assembled on stage. The lead trumpeter then signals the ensemble to play the final passage to conclude the piece.
The Annapolis Brass Quintet, for whom this fanfare was written, played this fanfare literally hundreds of times for audiences all over the world . . .THIS TIME ITS JUST FOR YOU GEORGE!

In anticipation of our paying tribute to George Heussenstamm on his Birthday, I emailed him the other day, and he immediately responded . . . the following has been excerpted from his response email:
How good to hear from you at this time when entry into my 96th year looms so large. Still here in Montrose, California, looking after myself as if I were a young man. . . subjected myself to a couple of test procedures to evaluate my heart's health . . . echo test where an ultrasound microphone was applied to my chest . . . moved about . . .After about 15 minutes of this probing, he said, 'You have a young heart." I said, "Thank you."
As a birthday present to myself, I purchased a new alto recorder, a Mollenhauer with a low F key . . .Which impels me now to ask you to visit my web. . listen to: Canto Nuovo, Op. 53 for solo recorder. This piece for solo recorder was written for a superb recordist, Konstanze Bender, in preparation for her entry into an international recorder competition. There are brief passages where she must play two or even three lines of music at once.
