ELLIOTT CARTER, AMERICAN COMPOSER,  a musical innovator whose erudite style and novel principles of polyrhythm, called metric modulation, won worldwide attention. 

​Born: December 11, 1908, Manhattan, New York, NY
Died: November 5, 2012, (thirty-six days shy of his 104th birthday) New York, NY

Education: Salle Cortot (1932–1935), Longy School of Music of Bard College, Harvard College, Horace Mann School

Awards: He was twice awarded the Pulitzer Prize for music, in 1960 and 1973.
